23 September 2005 - Sasol Brunsbüttel is tapping new sources for the supply of feedstocks
On Thursday, shortly after 8:00h, the "Alexander Tvardowskiy" docked at the Brunsbüttel Elbe port. The bulk freighter, having departed from St. Petersburg in Russia about a week ago, carries several thousand tonnes of raw aluminium. Sasol's Brunsbüttel plant needs aluminium as feedstock for the production of its high-purity aluminas, which are used, inter alia, to manufacture refinery and car exhaust catalytic converters as well as high-performance abrasives.
"The procurement of raw aluminium by ship and directly from the Russian production site enables us to tap new sources for the supply of feedstocks", explains Dr. Kay Luttmann, Plant Manager.
"In order to ensure the reliable supply of our products to our customers, we need a secure feedstock supply." The Elbe port's suitability for unloading bulk cargo enables Sasol to exploit the well-developed infrastructure of this industrial region. In addition, the plant has its own loading bridge at Kiel Canal for the transhipment of liquid products.[For full coverage see German version]
