Through the environmental goals and environmental programmes we have defined for ourselves, Sasol Germany continually strives to reduce the environmental effects of its own business activities as well as the use of energy and resources, above and beyond adherence to environmental laws and regulations.
In constant dialogue with our partners, we do everything in our power to protect our employees, our facilities’ neighbours and the environment. As a signatory of the global chemical industry’s Responsible Care® Initiative, Sasol Germany is bound to the principle of responsible conduct in all activities and to the continuous development and improvement of its own achievements in the areas of safety, health and environmental protection.
Specifically, the company is pursuing the following projects, among others:
- Cooperation with suppliers (“sustainable supply chain”): As part of its commitment to sustainable supply chain management, Sasol Germany regularly evaluates its own feedstock suppliers to ensure the consistent sustainable conduct of all participants along the supply chain.
- Sustainability and feedstock: Sasol Germany supports the “Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil” (RSPO). With the certification of the Marl site according to the RSPO regulations, which Sasol Germany aims to achieve by 2014, Sasol Germany strives to ensure that the palm oil used and its derivatives are sourced from producers and suppliers that operate sustainably.
- Energy management system: By putting an energy management system in place, Sasol Germany is banking on a sustainable increase in energy efficiency in all areas of the company. Specialised communities of practice (COPs) identify specific opportunities for improvement within the organisation.
- Energy from renewable raw materials: By cooperating with a biomass cogeneration plant, the output of the site’s own power plant in Brunsbüttel can be reduced significantly. This saves several thousand tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.
